Cooper Board Named Westfield State Male Scholar Athlete of the Year
The senior ice hockey captain earned the highest cumulative grade-point average of any male athlete in his class while serving as a top-six forward on the Owls ice hockey team.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State senior ice hockey player Cooper Board (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) was presented with the Male Scholar Athlete of the Year award at the Student Athlete Advisory Committee Senior and Awards night on May 4.
The senior scholar athlete award is named to the male and female student-athlete who have the highest cumulative grade-point average.
Board, a computer science major and forward on the Owls ice hockey team, helped ascend Westfield into the MASCAC Championship game for the first time in program history, scoring the game-winning goal in overtime at Fitchburg State to vault the Owls into the title game.
He was named to the MASCAC all-conference first team as a forward in his senior year, finishing the year with seven goals and 15 assists for 22 points. As a captain of the Owls, Board was responsible for three game-winning goals this season.
In 102 career games, Board has piled up 79 points, scoring 39 times while dishing out 40 assists to go along with eight game winners.
