Women's Basketball Rolls Past MCLA, 90-22

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State women's basketball rode an overwhelming defensive performance to a 90-22 win over Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference game at the Amsler Gym on Wednesday night.
Westfield forced the Trailblazers into twice as many turnovers (44) as points (22).
The Owls improved to 10-4 on the season and 2-1 in the MASCAC, while MCLA is now 0-8 overall and 0-2 in the conference.
Westfield led 19-4 at the end of the first quarter, and extended the lead all the way to 30-4 on a Gianna Strange (Westfield, Mass./Suffield Academy) three pointer early in the second quarter that forced a 'Blazers timeout. MCLA got a three pointer of their own from Amare Williams to slow the big run.
Westfield led 44-13 at the half, forcing 25 turnovers in the first 20 minutes, but the Owls connected on just 6 of 28 three-point tries in the opening half.
The Owls played 17 players, with 15 scoring.
Sophomore guard Caroline Galvani (Framingham, Mass.) led the Owls with 16 points, Sophia Rockwood (Windsor, Vt.) added 13, and Kayley Downie (Easthampton, Mass.) 10. Destiny Saltis (Southampton, Mass./Hampshire Reg.) scored her first collegiate points for the Owls.
Dakota Quick led MCLA with six points.
Westfield will be back in action on Saturday, hosting Anna Maria College in a MASCAC game at the Woodward Center with a noon tip off.
