Four Owls Earn All New England Honors; Ware Takes Second in Javelin
Eliza Lee, Julianne Kelly and Reese Stevens each recorded All-New England Finishes
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State University senior John Ware (Wilmongton, Mass.) earned all-New England honors with a second-place finish in the men's javelin, leading the Owls results at the New England Division III Championships at Springfield College on Friday and Saturday.
Ware's best throw of 56.77 meters scored eight points to deliver the team's top finish of the meet and score eight points.
On the women's side, senior Eliza Lee (Walpole, Mass.) doubled up on all New England honors by placing sixth in both the long jump and triple jump, senior Julianne Kelly (Natick, Mass.) added All-New England to her resume with a seventh place result in the steeplechase, and junior Reese Stevens (Agawam, Mass.) also was tabbed as an All-New England athlete by placing sixth in the 1,500 meters.
Lee's marks in the long jump (5.58m) and triple jump (11.26m) accounted for six points.
Stevens ran a personal best time in the 1,500 meters, crossing in 4:46.24 to contribute three points.
Kelly also ran a PR in 3,000-meter steeplechase in 11:43.77 to score two points.
The women's 4x800-meter relay team matched that point total with a seventh-place finish in 9:58.05.
Other Owl efforts included Jordan Stallworth (Chicopee, Mass.), who placed 15th in the 200 meters (22.73) and 18th in the 100-meter prelims (11.04), while senior Tealei Chandonnet (Dracut, Mass.) led the Owls in the 5,000 meters with a 13th-place finish in 18:44.43.
Westfield State's relay teams also competed across multiple events, highlighted by a 13th-place finish in the men's 4x400 (3:27.81) and a 14th-place showing in the women's 4x100 (50.82).
The Owl women placed 24th among 38 schools that scored at the meet with 13 points.
The Westfield's men scored eight points to finish in a tie for 30th among 35 scoring schools at the meet.
