Women’s Track and Field Pile Up Ten Event Victories at Jerry Gravel Classic
Eliza Lee won three individual events to power women’s track and field to a strong showing at the 2026 Jerry Gravel Classic meet on Saturday afternoon.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State women's track and field piled up eight individual event victories and two team relay race wins, headlined by senior Eliza Lee (Walpole, Mass.) who secured three event wins as the Owls competed in and hosted the 2026 Jerry Gravel Classic meet on Alumni Field and the Jerry Gravel Track from Westfield, Mass. on Saturday.
Lee, who has routinely delivered strong results in both the long jump and triple jump all season, won both events again today. In the long jump, she recorded a mark of 5.57m which places her 14th on the national outdoor qualifying list. In the triple jump, she recorded a distance of 11.35m and also remains 18th on the national outdoor qualifying list for an attempt at the Coast Guard Invite last weekend. Along with a pair of wins at the sand pits she also logged the top time in the 200, making a late break in the final 50 meters to nab the top place in 26.91 seconds.
Junior hurdler Devin Whalen (Marblehead, Mass.) grabbed two individual wins on the track after 16.39 second trek in the 110m hurdles followed by a 1:12.71 time in the 400m hurdles.
Senior Emily Ottomaniello (Agawam, Mass.) added a pair of field event wins as well; winning outright in the high jump by clearing the bar at 1.45m while also breaking a tie with Western New England's Gabrielle Minuti in the pole vault by successfully clearing the bar at 2.59m on her first attempt compared to Minuti's second.
Senior Reese Stevens (Agawam, Mass.) added an eighth individual win for the Owls with a personal-best time of 2:22.03 in the 800, which was five seconds clear of the opposition.
The Owls relay teams were on point today as well, winning both the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relay races. In the 4x100, Emma Daly (Pittsfield, Mass.), Lee, Bella Coughlin (Taunton, Mass.), and Anjalina Lubarsky (Ludlow, Mass.) teamed up for a time of 51.25 which was less than a second ahead of the Golden Bears "A" relay team. In the 4x400, Coughlin and Lubarsky along with Jailene Felix (Westfield, Mass.) and Julie Richardson (Stoughton, Mass.) pulled away for a winning result of 4:14.40 with Felix gaining noticeable separation as the anchor of the leg.
Daly and Felix were both second-place finishers. Daly behind her teammate Ottomaniello in the high jump with a height of 1.40m and Felix in the 400 in a time of 1:01.47. Daly was also top five in a deep 200-meter field. Senior Tealei Chandonnet (Dracut, Mass.) tallied a second place result in the 1500, making a run at the top spot before settling in as the runner-up in 5:03.79.
Lubarsky added two third-place results to her relay wins in the 100 (13.24) and the 200 (27.42).
The Owls were four, five, and six in the 400 with Coughlin finishing fourth (1:05.64), Richardson checking in fifth (1:06.27), and Aurora Corbett (Lakeville, Mass.) earning a personal-record time in sixth at 1:07.46.
Prior to the start of the meet, Westfield State athletics honored women's track and field's senior class: Paige Brandt, Tealei Chandonnet, Shea Hamel, Julianne Kelly, Brynne LeCours, Eliza Lee, Faith McCormack, Emily Ottomaniello, Erin Vasu, and Amanda Walsh.
Westfield State women's track and field will participate at the Trinity College Invitational on Saturday, April 18 before getting set to compete in the 2026 MASCAC Outdoor Championships on April 25.
