WESTFIELD, Mass. – Colby College, ranked 11th in the nation in the ICWLA Division III national poll, got goals from 15 different goal scorers as the Mules posted a 22-4 win over Westfield State University at Alumni Field on Wednesday evening.
Colby (3-3) tallied 10 times in the first quarter to take a 10-2 lead after one period. Julia Maimonis and Stella Regan each tallied a pair of goals in the opening 15 minutes for the Mules.
Colby dominated the time of possession early, winning the first 14 center draws of the match.
Westfield was effective when able to advance the ball into the offensive end, getting the first goal of the game from Mercedes Rozzi off of Christina Roncarati's feed from the top of the fan, then Rozzi added a free position goal later in the first period, with the Owls scoring on their first two shots of the game.
Colby led 14-3 at the half and kept the game in running time throughout the second half.
Stella Regan led the Mules attack with three goals and two assists, Maimonis added three goals. Kristin Podgorni and Ainsley Burke netted two goals and an assist each.
The Mules split the game between three goal keepers, with Gigi Peloso drawing the start, Addi Hurley played 30 minutes and Brynna Hall played 15 minutes.
Westfield was led by three goals from Rozzi, Marena Morales added one goal and four draw controls.. Roncarati had two assists and Emily Heslin one.
Izzy Conley made 13 saves for Westfield before being relieved late by Lexi Emmanuele.
Westfield falls to 2-5 on the season while playing a tough early schedule that included a pair of teams mentioned in the national poll.
The Owls will be back in action at home on Saturday, and will host Framingham State in the first MASCAC conference game of the season at 6:00 p.m. at Alumni Field.
