Tucker Ties Low Round Score, Owls Top Worcester 330-338
Westfield State’s Darren Tucker finished with a low score of 79, tying two Worcester golfers as the Owls edge the Lancers by eight strokes.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State's Darren Tucker finished in a three-way tie with a low round score of 79 with a pair of Worcester State golfers as the Owls defeated the Lancers 330-338 in a dual match from Tekoa Country Club in Westfield, Mass. on Wednesday afternoon.
Tucker navigated a challenging back nine by recording a 38 on the back, three strokes better than his score on the front to pull into a three-way tie at the top of the leaderboard with Worcester State's Zack Hurley and Nolan Finan which were both finished and in the clubhouse. The Lancers were in position to win the match before Tucker checked in with the final group to reset the Owls score (top four scores of the five golfers).
Cameron Schnopp was fourth overall as an individual in the event, posting a solid 80 which included a pair of birdies on eight and 12.
Westfield used a balanced scoring attack to edge Worcester in the team results with Nathan Copetas placing sixth overall with an 81, followed by Will Gangi and Aidan Asher who each collected scores of 85.
Hurley and Finan joined Tucker as the only three golfers to card sub-40 rounds on the back nine with Finan tying Tucker with a 38 on the back while Hurley was a stroke higher at 39.
Tekoa Country Club is a par 71, playing a total of 6438 yards from the blue tees.
Westfield State wraps up the spring slate and will return to action in the fall season.
