WESTFIELD., Mass. –   Westfield State University athletics recognized 303 student athletes as part of the annual Athletic Director's 3.0 Honor Roll at halftime of the Owls' women's basketball game on February 18.

Student-athletes ringed the court for the ceremony, hosted by athletic director Richard Lenfest, Jr. with Westfield State President Dr. Linda Thompson the guest speaker to recognize the high-achieving student athletes. 

The names of each athlete rolled on the scoreboard video screen to recognize each team and athlete for their performance in the classroom.

In total, 61.6 percent of the Owls' student athletes achieved a 3.0 or higher cumulative grade-point average.

President Thompson noted that 16 student-athletes currently carry a perfect 4.0 grade-point average for their careers, and 29 achieved a 4.0 in the fall 2025 semester.  The Owls athletes as a whole have a combined GPA of 3.11.

"This is a very gratifying evening for an athletic director to look around at all of our student athletes – hence the word student," said Lenfest, in asking for a round of applause for the students, and noting that Academic Success is the first pillar of success for Westfield State athletics as a whole.

He thanked Faculty Athletic Representative Dr. Paul Cacolice, and trustee Tessa (Chenaille) Lucey, a former women's basketball standout for the Owls, who were in attendance for the event.

"At Westfield State University our student athletes embody the heart and spirit of our campus," said  President Thompson.  "You are outstanding ambassadors representing our pride in what it means to be an owl, across the state, the region and beyond," noting the time and effort that student athletes put in to both athletics and academics.

"You truly live our mission and values and we are deeply grateful," added Thompson.  "Tonight we celebrate those who's excellence goes far beyond the scoreboard … Athletics teaches teamwork, perseverance and leadership, and combined with academic rigor it prepares you for a life of purpose and impact.  I want to congratulate all of you on your remarkable achievements."

Honorees received an Owls' Scholar-Athlete T-Shirt and were treated to a pizza reception during the second half of the game, in which the Owls won a thriller, 58-56 in front of an excellent crowd of almost 500 fans.
