Retired Coach Kowalski to Receive Butova Award on April 6
The Butova Award is presented to a local football player who went on to a distinguished career while continuing to support athletics.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Former Westfield State football coach Pete Kowalski will receive the Butova Award from the Western Mass Chapter of the National Football Foundation on Sunday, April 6 at the organization's annual awards banquet at Twin Hill Country Club in Longmeadow.
The Butova Award is presented to a local football player who went on to a distinguished career while continuing to support athletics.
Kowalski retired from coaching at Westfield State in the summer of 2024 after nine seasons at the helm of the Owls program and 28 total years with the Owls program as a coach.
A West Springfield, Mass., native, Kowalski played at UMass Amherst and later taught in the Hartford public school system for 34 years before taking over the Owls football program.
The award is named in honor of Henry Butova, who was a coach and administrator at American International.
