JT Thompson Named Male Athlete of the Year
Westfield State senior JT Thompson was named as Westfield State Athletics’ Male Athlete of the Year for the 2022-23 season.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State senior men's basketball player JT Thompson (Columbia, S.C.) was recently named as Westfield State Athletics' Male Athlete of the Year for the 2022-23 season.
Thompson was a MASCAC All-Conference First-Team selection this season, leading the Owls in scoring at 17.4 points per game. He also led the conference with 65 made three pointers, which included five triples as part of a 29-point performance in the MASCAC Championship game this season.
The senior guard also played a key role for the Owls during the 2022 season, as Thompson piled up the second-most points for Westfield in the conference championship game, scoring 14 points to help guide the Owls to their third title in program history. He then led the Owls with 15 points in their NCAA Tournament first round game against Nazareth.
Thompson tallied 700 points across two seasons with the Owls, burying 117 triples to finish fifth on the all-time three-pointers list in program history while finishing top ten in school history in three-point percentage at 36%.
Westfield State University Athletics Director Richard Lenfest presented Thompson with the award during the University's annual Athletics Awards Night.
