Six to be Inducted in Movement Science Hall of Fame
Six individuals will be inducted into the Westfield State Movement Science Hall of Fame by the Department of Sports Medicine and Human Performance on April 25, including five inductees with significant connections to Westfield State Owls athletics.
Six individuals will be inducted into the Westfield State Movement Science Hall of Fame by the Department of Sports Medicine and Human Performance on April 25, including five inductees with significant connections to Westfield State Owls athletics as student-athletes and coaches.
The honorees include:
Tilia Fantasia, faculty '66-'98, former Department Chair and Professor, Westfield State University
Dr. Fantasia is also a member of the Westfield State athletic hall of fame, where she was inducted in 2011 as a pioneer in women's sports. Fantasia initiated the women's varsity sports of field hockey, basketball, softball, gymnastics and volleyball shortly after arriving to Westfield State in 1966, and coached the field hockey and softball teams for several years
Tim Brillo '92, Athletic Director, Ludlow High School, MA
Brillo played as a quarterback on the Owls' football team as an undergraduate, and served a total of 10 years in two stints as a coach for the Owls' football staff.
Chad Labonte '01, Department Chair and Physical Education Teacher, West Springfield High School, MA
Labonte was an all-conference offensive lineman on the Owls football team in the mid-90's, and served as an assistant coach for the Owls football team, before becoming the head football coach at West Springfield High School.
Alyssa (Wesoly) Healy '10, Wellness Teacher, Dover-Sherborn High School, MA
Wesloly was a four-year player as a back on the Westfield State field hockey team. Her teams won 40 games in four seasons and played in the ECAC tournament.
Mike Gauthier '79, Physical Education Teacher, Mosier Elementary School, South Hadley, MA
Gauthier played both baseball and soccer at Westfield State as an undergraduate, and was an inaugural member of the Westfield State athletics hall of fame committee. Gauthier's 1974 men's soccer team was chosen as a Team of Distinction for the 2021 Westfield State Athletic Hall of Fame Ceremony. Gauthier was part of six NCAA tournament teams - three each in baseball and soccer.
Jenny (Linker) Zarak '04, Associate Professor, North Dakota State University
