Academic Honors for Owls Baseball, Basketball, Hockey
Westfield State University student-athletes recently received a number of academic honors from their sport associations to close out the 2020-21 academic year.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State University student-athletes recently received a number of academic honors from their sport associations to close out the 2020-21 academic year.
In men's basketball, senior Mason Resendes was named as part of the 2020-21 NABC Honors Court, recognizing men's collegiate basketball student-athletes in all NCAA divisions and the NAIA, who excelled in academics during the past season. In order to be named to the Honors Court, a student-athlete must be a junior or senior academically and a varsity player. 2. Cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.2 or higher at the conclusion of the 2020-21 academic year. 3. Students must have matriculated at least one year at their current institution.
In baseball Westfield State was one of more than 580 member college and high school programs from across the country who have been awarded the 2020-21 ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award. Teams from every level of college and high school baseball were honored with this year's award, which highlights programs coached by ABCA members that posted a GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale for the entire 2020-21 academic year.
Owls' ice hockey had seven student athletes recognized by the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) "Krampade All-American Scholars." To qualify, a student-athlete must have attained a 3.6 GPA for each semester. Owls skaters Ryan Candia, Mathieu Jones, Wyatt Lawrence, Daniel Long, Jacob Ratcliffe, Tyler Shugrue, Valtteri Valtonen were all recognized.
