Westfield State University student athletes took home a slew of MASCAC weekly honors, as women's lacrosse's Cassidy Connolly was named the women's lacross player and rookie of the week; catcher Bryant Dana was named the baseball player of the week, Nolan Florence was selected the baseball rookie of the week, and softball's Alyssa Clark was names the loop's player and rookie of the week.
Connolly (Woburn, Mass.) was the Owls leading attacker in a pair of games as Westfield swept the season series from Fitchburg State, 17-5, and 16-3. She totaled six goals and three assists in two wins over Fitchburg State, giving her nine points on the week. Registered three goals and three assists in a 17-5 win over the Falcons on Thursday, and tacked on three more markers in a 16-3 win on Saturday.
Dana (Lynnfield, Mass.) batted .667 (4-6) with five runs scored and six runs batted as he backstopped three of the four Owls wins this week. Also drew three walks and was hit by a pitch for an OBP of .727. Was equally as impressive behind the dish, where he caught two of three would be base-stealers, including ending Friday's 4-3 conference win by throwing out a runner at second to quell the threat.
Florence (Chicopee, Mass), who splits time at catcher and DH for the Owls, hit .444 (4-9) with four walks, for a .615 OBP. Started all four games against Fitchburg, one behind the plate and three as DH, driving in three runs and scoring five in the four game set.
Clark batted .500 (6-12) with a double and two home runs for Westfield State as the Owls earns splits in each of their doubleheaders against Fitchburg State. Hit a pair of line drive home runs in a 9-1 win over the Falcons, finishing 2-for-3 with four RBI and two runs scored in game two of the Friday series.
Two more Owls athletes were named to the weekly honor roll for their sport:
Trevor Edwards, (Sr., P, Amherst, Mass.) -- Converted three save opportunities in two days as the Owls went 4-0 against Fitchburg State. Slammed the door on the Owls 11-10 come-from-behind win on Friday, as Westfield rallied from a 10-4 deficit after four innings. Allowed one hit and struck out two in that outing. Finished the weekend with three innings pitched, three hits allowed, and three strikeouts and no walks.
Stephanie Scoville, (Fr., P, Northfield, Mass.) -- Threw a pair of complete game wins this week. Totaled 10 innings pitched with eight strikeouts, while allowing eight hits and two walks. Posted a 2.10 era as the Owls won both her starts via the eight-run rule.
