Gray, Owls Creep Away From Bears, 87-72

Westfield State senior Melissa Gray (Peabody, Mass.)  turned in a monster performance with 27 points, 12 rebounds, eight steals and seven assists to lead the Owls to an 87-72 win over Western New England in a non-conference women’s basketball game at the Woodward Center on Saturday afternoon.

 Westfield State led 51-43 heading into the fourth quarter, but the Owls couldn’t shut the door on Connecticut College as the Camels pulled out a 66-60 win in a non-conference women’s basketball game in New London, Conn. on Tuesday evening.

Gray, Labrie Earn MASCAC Weekly Honors

Westfield State University women’s basketball swept the weekly MASCAC awards, as senior guard Melissa Gray (Peabody, Mass.) was named the league’s player of the week, while first-year Lila Labrie (Southampton, Mass./Hampshire Regional) was named as the circuit’s rookie of the week.

Westfield State senior Melissa Gray scored 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, but that was not enough as the Owls fell to Emerson College by a 67-63 score at the Lafrance Hospitality Tournament at UMass Dartmouth on Friday night.

MIT Outguns Owls in OT, 98-92

Westfield State’s Melissa Gray (Peabody, Mass.) and MIT’ Christina Antonakakis (Holmdel, NJ)  staged an epic scoring duel with more than 30 points each, but in the end it was Antonakakis’ Engineers who came away with a 98-92 overtime win in a non-conference basketball game at the Woodward Center on Tuesday evening.

Women's Basketball Falls Late at Plymouth, 67-65

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Sophomore Sabrina Vlahovic (New Hope, Pa.) sank four free throws in the final minute as Plymouth State University outpaced a high-speed Westfield State University team, defeating the Owls 67-65 in a non-conference women's basketball game at Foley Gymnasium Saturday afternoon.
