Westfield State Athletics soar to a sixth consecutive Smith Cup trophy and have now won the most Smith Cups in MASCAC history.
Chi Alpha Sigma recognizes undergraduate college student-athletes who participate in a sport at the varsity intercollegiate level, achieve junior academic standing or higher after their fifth full time semester, and earn a 3.5 or higher cumulative grade point average.
Awarded to top MASCAC institution for best collective sport performance over the course of the year.
Westfield State University’s cheerleading team took home second place honors at the recent 2025 National Cheerleaders Association College Nationals in Daytona Beach, Florida.
Registration is now open for the 18th annual Owl Club Golf Tournament, which will be played on Monday, August 5 at Crestview Country Club in Agawam, Mass.
Westfield wins its 18th Smith Cup overall, and it's eighth in the last nine years.
Owls' athletics recognized its major award winners, including the Senior Scholar Athlete Awards, the Peter Mazza Athletic Award, the Senior Male and Female Athletes of the Year, and the John Kurty Award, the department's highest award for four-year contributions to athletics, and inducted 33 new members of Chi Alpha Sigma, the national honor society for college athletes.
Cheerleading tryouts for the 2024-25 season will be on April 27th and April 28th from 10 a.m.- 12 pm on Court 3 in the Woodward Center.

At the conclusion of the winter sports season, Westfield State University Athletics continues to hold the top spot in the 2023-24 Howard C. Smith Cup standings as the best athletic program in the MASCAC.

As the NCAA celebrates “50-years of Title IX”, Westfield State Senior Woman Administrator and Associate Athletic Director Nancy Bals has announced the department’s own 50-years of Title IX celebration and campaign - designed to increase support from female athletic alumni to further fortify Owls’ women’s sports teams.
Tryouts for the 2022-23 Westfield State Cheerleading team will be held on June 12, from 10 am to 2 pm at the Woodward Center. Interested candidates should e-mail coach Chauncey Scott at cscott@westfield.ma.edu to register.
The Owls won the Smith Cup for the second straight time, and the sixth in the last seven presentations of the Cup.
