WESTFIELD, Mass. --- Westfield State softball bombed Fitchburg, 8-0 and 18-1 in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon, giving the Owls the outright conference regular-season title.
Westfield improves to 31-7 overall and 11-1 in the MASCAC. The Owls will be the #1 seed in the upcoming conference tournament and host the tournament's final four.
Fitchburg dips to 7-30 and 3-9 in the conference.
In the opener, senior SP Katherine Canty tossed a 3-hit shutout, her third of the season in improving to 12-2.
Christina Ciampa rapped out three hits and scored twice to lead the Owls' offense. Alyssa Slack and Caroline O'Donnell each had 2 rbi doubles for Westfield.
In the nightcap, Ciampa, Hough, Kassidy LaTour and Rylie Camacho each had three hits for the Owls, which had 22 hits as a team. Ciampa and Hough eachdrove in three runs. Hough had two doubles in game two, and one in game one, giving her 16 for the season – the second best total in season history.

The Owls split the game between three pitchers, with senior Gianna Conte getting the win in relief of starter Joss Mettey. Angelina Vartuli worked a scoreless sixth.
The Owls will play a conference doubleheader at Bridgewater on Saturday to wrap up the regular season.
