Westfield State’s Taylor Creech (Kennebunk, Maine) scored a pair of first-half goals to lead the Owls to a 3-1 win over Western Connecticut State University in a non-conference field hockey game at Alumni Field on Tuesday afternoon.
The Owls improve to 3-1 in the MASCAC and currently sit alone in second place in the conference standings.
Taylor Creech (Kennebunkport,, Maine) scored one goal and assisted on another, and Paige Reisman (Milford, Mass.) and Emma Gniadek (Worcester, Mass./Doherty) combined to pitch the shutout in goal as Westfield State field hockey blanked Fitchburg State, 6-0 in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action from Elliot Field.
Sarah Richard (Templeton, Mass./Oakmont) scored a pair of goals and Kaleigh Murphy (Pembroke, Mass.) added a goal and an assist as Westfield State field hockey topped UMass-Dartmouth, 4-1 in a non-conference game at UMass-Dartmouth on Saturday.
Owls’ sophomore forward Kaleigh Murphy (Pembroke, Mass.) was named the offensive player of the week, sophomore goalkeeper Emma Gniadek (Worcester, Mass./Doherty) was named the defensive player of the week, and first-year forward Ashley D’Elia (Watertown, Conn.) was tabbed as the rookie of the week.
