Owls Swim and Dive Starts Season at Union (N.Y.)
Westfield State senior Alexa Richter topped the 1000 freestyle to lead the Owls women’s swimming and diving teams efforts as they opened the season with a double-dual meet at Union College in Schenectady, N.Y., with Roberts Wesleyan College on Friday afternoon.
WESTFIELD, MASS. – Westfield State senior Alexa Richter topped the 1000 freestyle to lead the Owls women's swimming and diving teams efforts as they opened the season with a double-dual meet at Union College in Schenectady, N.Y., with Roberts Wesleyan College on Friday afternoon.
Westfield fell in the team scoring to Union by a 158-70 final score, and 133-101 to Roberts Wesleyan. Union topped Roberts, 131-105.
Richter stopped the clock in 11:44.22 in the 1000, 11 seconds clear of her closest competition.
She also earned a pair of second-place results in the 100 freestyle (58.13) and the 100 backstroke (1:06.53). She also helped the Owls to second in the 200 free relay along with Brooklyn Jones, Katie Colby, And Jackie Roccabruna.
Roccabruna took home second-place honors in the 50 freestyle in 27.48.
Westfield will be back in the pool next Friday for the University of St. Joseph pentathlon in Hartford, Conn.
