LaTour Powers Owls In Doubleheader Sweep of Gordon
Kassidy LaTour homered in both games as Westfield State University swept Gordon College in a doubleheader by scores of 15-1 and 11-2 at Sullivan Field on Tuesday afternoon.

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Kassidy LaTour (Lebanon, Conn./Lyman Memorial) homered in both games and Hannah Wodecki (Southampton, Mass./Hampshire) went 4-4 at the plate in game two as Westfield State University swept Gordon College in a doubleheader by scores of 15-1 and 11-2 at Sullivan Field on Tuesday afternoon.
LaTour had a sacrifice fly to drive in a run in the first, hit a 2-run triple to left center and scored in the second, and ripped a line drive 2-run home run in the fourth inning to help power the game 1 win. She finished 2-3 at the plate with five RBI. Christina Ciampa (Rockville, Conn.) added a 3-3 day at the plate with a triple, two doubles and three RBI.
Sarah Bingham (Reno, Nev.) doubled and scored in the fourth inning for the 100th hit of her career at Westfield.
Starting pitcher Angelina Vartuli (Middletown, Conn.) (W, 2-3) tossed a complete game, for the Owls scattering five hits and striking out four. Katie Melendy (L, 2-9) started but lasted just 1.1 innings in taking the loss for Gordon.
In the nightcap, Wodecki went 4-4 at the plate with three runs scored and an RBI, while Rachel Brewer-Karimi (Torrington, Conn.) rapped out three hits and drove in a pair. Ciampa added two more hits and drove in three runs, including two with a bloop single in the sixth that gave the Owls the walk off win via the 8-run rule.
LaTour added her second home run of the day in the fifth inning, a 2-run blast on a towering fly ball down the left field line.
Senior Gianna Conte (Greenfield, Mass.) (W, 3-1) picked up the pitching win in a 6-inning complete game, allowing seven hits and striking out one.
Ami Rivera had a pair of hits for Gordon, including a line-shot home run to dead centerfield in the fifth. Emily Graham (L, 4-11) took the pitching loss for the Fighting Scots, allowing 14 hits and six earned runs in 5-2/3 innings.
Westfield improves to 22-6 on the season, while Gordon falls to 7-21. Westfield travels to Wesleyan for a pair of non-conference games on Thursday, before returning home to host Framingham State in a battle of the top two teams in the MASCAC conference standings on Saturday.
