Softball Swept In Florida Pair on Thursday
Westfield State softball dropped a pair of games in the Gene Cusic Classic in Naples, Fla., on Thursday morning, falling to Emerson College, 8-1 in the opener, and Wilmington (Ohio) College, 6-4 in the nightcap.

Westfield is now 4-4 on the season.
Gianna Conte took the hard-luck pitching loss for the Owls in game 1. After allowing just a single run in the first inning, she worked four shutout frames before the Lions pushed across seven runs in the sixth inning.
Aided by three Owl errors in the inning, the Lions (4-1) got an RBI double from Claire Overton and a 2-run single from Sam Zanotti
Westfield had tied the game in the sixth inning after Mia Alfonso doubled to left and then scored on Skylar Dutra's line drive single to centerfield.
Emerson's Jessica Gomez worked six strong innings, allowing seven hits and striking out six.
In the nightcap, Wilmington leadoff hitter Judea Wilson went 4-4 at the plate as the Quakers outlasted the Owls, 6-4.
Wilmington (8-4) struck for three runs in the second inning, getting RBI base hits from Mollie Moore and Logan Julian.
Westfield got one run back in the second inning, as Liana Silva delievered an RBI double to score Annelyse Rivera.
Wilmington extended the lead to 6-1 in the top of the fifth inning with a 2-run double from Wilson down the left field line.
The Owls tried to battle back, scoring twice in the fifth with Alyssa Clark and Sarah Bingham rapping RBI base hits, and Clark drove in Silva with a ground out in the sixth inning to trim the lead down to 6-4. Westfield was retired 1-2-3 in the bottom of the seventh to end the game.
Bingham and Abby Higgins each had a pair of hits for the Owls.
Stephanie Scoville (L, 3-1) took the pitching loss, working four innings. Avree Entler (W, 2-1) got the win in relief for Wilmington, working five innings and scattering eight hits and three runs.
The Owls will face Nazareth (NY) College and Rutgers-Newark (NJ) tomorrow morning in Naples, Fla. before winding up the spring trip
