Bonifay Named MASCAC Rookie of the Week
Bonifay had a season-best three point night against MCLA and was an important contributor in a 2-0 week for the Owls.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State first-year forward Cannon Bonifay (Fort Worth, Texas) earned conference weekly honors this past week as he was named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference's rookie of the week.
Bonifay registered a season-high three point night in a 5-2 win at MCLA, scoring twice in the third period to put the game out of reach while also assisting on the game-winning goal in what served as a 2-0 week for the Owls.
On the season, Bonifay leads all Owls rookies with 16 points, tallying seven goals while adding nine assists. He has recorded at least one point in 13 of 21 games played this season, racking up a pair of multi-point outings across his last three games.
Bonifay is one of three Westfield State players to earn conference rookie of the week honors, joining a strong first-year core of Liam Krupcyznski and Xavier Tremblay. Four separate rookies have earned conference honors as first-year netminder Russ DeCoste secured the league's goalie of the week at the beginning of January.
Westfield State (14-6-1 overall, 7-2-1 MASCAC) sits in third place in the MASCAC standings with 22 points and have an important home meeting with Anna Maria (8-1-1 MASCAC) on Thursday at 7:35 P.M. from Amelia Park Arena with just two weeks remaining in the regular season.
