Western New England goaltender Colten Lancaster stopped 40 of the 41 shots he faced to help the Golden Bears to a 3-1 wi over Wetsfield State on opening night of the 2021-22 ice hockey season at the Olympia in West Springfield, Mass.
Sam Mitchell opened the scoring for the Bears with a marker 14:31 into the contest.
Western New England expanded its lead getting a pair of goals in rapid succession from Kyle Knight and Demitrios Stefanou late in the second period.
Westfield State netted its lone goal 3:30 into the third with Paul Frys tallying on the power play with an assist from Mathieu Jones.
Valterri Valtonen made 24 saves for the Owls.
