Rogers Secures MASCAC Weekly Honors
Westfield State first-year forward Kenney Rogers received both the MASCAC Player of the Week and MASCAC Rookie of the Week honors for the Owls this past week.
WESTFIELD, Mass. –The first full week concludes for the winter sports season as Westfield State men's basketball took a gamble and it paid off. Kenney Rogers (Springfield, Mass.) of the Owls took home his first Rookie of the Week honor as well as Player of the Week.
Rogers took over week one for the Owls and has made an immediate impact in his first collegiate playing time. The rookie helped Westfield State to a 2-1 record on the week as he averaged 25.7 points, six rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.7 steals while shooting 52 percent from the floor during the week. Rogers put up 28 points, 12 rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals in the 106-69 win over SUNY Cobleskill as well as 27 points against MUW in the SUNY Oneonta tournament.
The freshman from Springfield International Charter School currently is leading the MASCAC this season in points with 96, second in points per game with 19.2 and tied for fourth in free throw percentage at 81.8 percent. Rogers has led Westfield in scoring in the Owls last three games.
Rogers and the Owls head to Emmanuel College on Wednesday, November 20 for a 7:00 P.M. tip off against the Saints.
