Shawna Crowley Named MASCAC Player of The Week
Westfield State senior hitter Shawna Crowley (Billerica, Mass.) has been named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference volleyball player of the week.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State senior hitter Shawna Crowley (Billerica, Mass.) has been named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference volleyball player of the week.
After missing several weeks due to an injury, Crowley has sparked the Owls, playing a key role in a five-set win over conference foe Framingham State on Saturday.
Crowley had 12 kills and 16 digs in the five set win over Framingham State, which was picked first in the league's preseason poll. Crowley had the final kill to rally the Owls win the second set, 33-31 and the final two kills to claim the fourth set, 25-18 to force a fifth set.
She added seven kills with an ace in the 3-0 setback to Simmons University.
Crowley leads the Owls with 2.29 kills per set and 2.5 points per set so far this season.
Westfield State is 2-12 overall but 1-1 in the MASCAC after Saturday's win. The Owls will be back in action on Wednesday with a conference match at home against Salem State.
