SPRINGFIELD - The Westfield State women's volleyball team defeated Plymouth State and Bridgewater State in second day action of the Tom Hay Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 9, at Springfield College.
Westfield rallied from an 0-2 deficit to down Plymouth, 3-2 (22-25, 22-25, 25-23, 25-14, 15-9). The Owls then defeated rival Bridgewater, 3-1 (25-14, 23-25, 28-26, 25-14), in a non-conference match.
Westfield freshman Julia Warner and junior Kerin DeGirolamo were named to the all-tournament team (see below).
DeGirolamo set a school record with 54 assists in the Plymouth match and also had a team-high seven service aces.
Warner led the attack department with 14 kills and 11 digs. Kelsey Leonard had 13 kills in the balanced attack followed by Alex Shaw (12 kills) and Rachel Ryan (12 kills 8 digs). Alyssa Stankowski tallied a team-high 16 digs.
In the Bridgewater match, DeGirolamo finished with 39 assists and Stankowski had 12 digs. Shaw (17), Ryan (11) and Warner (10) led the Owls in kills.
