SPRINGFIELD - The Westfield State University women's volleyball team split a pair of matches on second day action of the WNEC Invitational.
Westfield defeated Maine Maritime Academy, 3-1 (25-15, 21-25, 25-18, 25-10) and lost to Emerson, 3-0 (25-23, 25-13, 25-22).
Freshman Julia Warner of Lee, Mass., led the Owls vs. Maine Maritime with 13 kills and 13 digs. Senior Rachel Ryan, who was selected to the WNEC Invitational all-tournament team, had 10 kills and 11 digs and junior Alex Shaw contributed nine kills and three blocks. Junior setter Kerin DeGirolamo recorded 36 assists, while sophomore Brittany Dussault had eight digs and a team-high six service aces.
Ryan led the Owls vs. Emerson with 12 kills and eight digs and Shaw had six kills and three blocks. Freshman Kayleigh Shea registered a team-high 14 digs and DeGirolamo had 25 assists.
