Lee Wins Pentathlon, Women’s Track and Field Finish Third at Massasoit Invitational

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State junior Eliza Lee (Walpole, Mass.) finished first in her first ever pentathlon as the Owls placed third in at the Massasoit Classic from Springfield, Mass. on Saturday afternoon.
Lee built up a total score of 2724 across five events in the pentathlon on Friday: 60-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put, long jump, and the 800. Today, Lee added a pair of second place finishes in the long jump (5.16m) and the triple jump (10.92m). Other notable results in the Owls field events came from senior Bronwyn Pinsly (Las Vegas, Nev.) at the shot put, tossing for a distance of 10.56 meters for an eighth-place tally in a deep field of athletes.
The Owls had four of the top five finishers in the 5000 with Shea Hamel (Longmeadow, Mass.) leading the Westfield pack with a second-place tally in a time of 19:05.26. Tealei Chandonnet (Dracut, Mass.) was next behind in third (19:19.94), followed by Julianne Kelly (Natick, Mass.) in fourth (19:40.94), then Reese Stevens (Agawam, Mass.) rounding out the top five by crossing the tape in 19:45.63.
Sophomore Devin Whalen (Marblehead, Mass.) placed third in the 60-meter hurdles, recording a time of 9.84 seconds.
Senior Molly Kennedy (West Springfield, Mass.) added a fourth-place mark in the 800 by posting a time of 2:32.67.
Springfield College were the meet winners with 243.50 points followed by Wellesley with 119 points, then the Owls at 100.50 points.
Westfield State will be back in action on Saturday, February 1 at the Smith College Invitational from Northampton, Mass.
