MASCAC All-Conference, Weekly Honors for Owls Track and Field
Thirteen women and six men from Westfield State formally earned Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference outdoor track and field all conference awards in track and field, as announced by the league on Wednesday.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Thirteen women and six men from Westfield State formally earned Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference outdoor track and field all conference awards in track and field, as announced by the league on Wednesday.
The top athlete in each event, and the runners from the winning relay teams at the MASCAC championship meet are named to the all conference team. The list of athletes honored from Westfield State appears below.
Additionally, two Owl athletes picked up weekly honors from the conference as well, as Nathan Sylven was tabbed as the MASCAC men's rookie of the week after, winning the 3,000 steeplechase in a time of 10:09.96, and the 5,000 meters in 16:06.17. He mixed in a third place result in the 1,500 meters (4:14.35) in the middle of the meet to total 26 points for the Owls.
On the women's side, Eliza Lee was recognized as the women's field athlete of the week, as she won the 800 meters, was part of the Owls winning 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams, won the triple jump with a PR leap of 11.02 meters and added a point with a sixth place finish in the long jump (5.02m). All together, Lee accounted for 26 points - the Owls margin of victory over Bridgewater State in the meet to win the conference title.
Westfield will send qualified athletes to the New England Division III championships this weekend at Mount Holyoke College.
