WESTFIELD, Mass. – The Westfield State women's track and field trio of Mia McDonald (Westfield, Mass.), Vicky Marin (Greenfield, Mass.), and Eliza Lee (Walpole, Mass.) swept the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference weekly honors this past week after the Owls competed at the Wheaton College Invite from Wheaton Mass. on Saturday.
For the sixth time in the indoor season, McDonald secured the MASCAC Track Athlete of the Week after setting a new personal best in the 3000 with a time of 10:32.52. Earlier this month, McDonald earned All-New England honors in the 5000 in a field that was comprised of only Division I athletes while setting another personal record in the event with a time of 18:41.47.
The Owls have claimed the Track Athlete the Week in each week of the indoor season thus far.
Marin was named the conference's Field Athlete of the Week after finishing with a first-place mark in the high jump at a top clearing of 1.61m. She also had a pair of top four placements in the triple jump (3rd/10.67m) and the 60-meter hurdles (4th/9.50). For Marin, it is her third consecutive Field Athlete of the Week honors as she has won four overall this indoor season.
Lee was recognized for a third time this season as the MASCAC Rookie of the Week after recording top five finishes and personal bests in the long jump (5th/4.87m) and the triple jump (4th/10.53m). Overall, it was the fifth time this year that the Owls have received the Rookie of the Week.
Westfield State will now set their sights on the New England Division III meet which begins on Friday, February 24 from Boston, Mass.
