WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State graduate student Mia McDonald (Westfield, Mass.) and sophomore Vicky Marin (Greenfield, Mass.) both earned conference honors this past week after strong performances in their respective events.
McDonald was named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Track Athlete of the Week while Marin received the conference's Field Athlete of the Week.
McDonald earned All-New England honors in indoor track after placing eighth in the women's 5000 meters at the NEICAAA All-Divisions championship meet at the Track at New Balance in Boston on Thursday evening. She finished with a personal-best time of 18:41.47 and was the only Division III runner in a field comprised of Division I athletes.
Marin finished second in three separate field events: The long jump (5.09m), high jump (1.56m), and triple jump (10.40m). She also placed second in the 55-meter hurdles as Marin totaled 24 of the Owls' 64 points, which gave the Westfield second place as a team.
Up next on the calendar for the Owls is their home meet as Westfield will be hosting the Westfield Invite on Saturday from Smith College in Northampton, Mass. Field events will begin at 10:30 A.M. with track events starting at noon.
