McDonald, Lee Receive MASCAC Honors
Westfield State graduate student Mia McDonald and first-year Eliza Lee both earned MASCAC recognition this past week with McDonald claiming the conference Track Athlete of the Week while Lee took home the Rookie of the Week.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State graduate student Mia McDonald (Westfield, Mass.) and first-year Eliza Lee (Walpole, Mass.) each received conference recognition this past week as the Owls competed at the Wesleyan Indoor Invite this past Saturday.
McDonald was named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Track Athlete of the Week while Lee secured the conference Rookie of the Week.
McDonald soared through the 5000 meters in 18:42.75, which was 13 seconds ahead of her nearest competitor and marked her new personal best time for the season. The strong performance in the 5000m allowed McDonald to qualify for the 2023 New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Indoor Championship meet as she holds the eighth fastest seed time of 16 competing athletes in the event.
McDonald will compete in the All-New England meet tomorrow at 6:45 P.M. from The Track at New Balance in Boston, Mass.
Lee put together a well-rounded performance with a pair of first-place victories in the triple jump (9.83) and the 400 meters (1:05.59). It was the second time this season that Lee was named the conference Rookie of the Week after beginning her collegiate career with two fifth-place finishes at the Springfield Invite earlier in the season.
Westfield State will next compete as a team on Friday as the Owls will participate in the Coast Guard Invite from New London, Conn.
