Three Westfield State University track and field athletes earned weekly awards from the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference.
A graduate-student standout from Westfield, Mass., Mia McDonald was honored as Women's Track Athlete of the Week. During the Massasoit Classic at Springfield College on Saturday, January 21, McDonald earned a first-place mark in the 3000 meters distancing herself from the rest of the field by 33 seconds and crossing the line with a time of 10:41:79.
First-year, Shea Hamel (Longmeadow, MA) earned the honors of Women's Track and Field Rookie of the Week for her performance at the Massasoit Classic. Hamel earned a second-place finish in the 3000 meters, posting a time of 11:14:70.
First-Year, Gordon Johnson (Hanson, MA) was named as the Men's Track and Field Rookie of the Week after his performance in the Massasoit Classic. Johnson produced a strong performance in the 1000 meters, earning a time of 2:42:61, which placed him second in the event.
The Owls women's and men's' track and field teams will next compete in the Wesleyan Invitational at Wesleyan College in Middletown, Connecticut on Saturday January 28, 2023.
