Zeppa Receives LEC Rookie Swimmer of the Week
Zeppa was 84/100ths off the school record in the 50-freestyle as part of her impressive effort this past Sunday.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State first-year swimmer Isabella Zeppa (Monson, Mass.) was named the Yankee Ford Little East Conference Rookie Swimmer of the Week for her performance at Simmons this weekend.
Zeppa scored 21.25 points, winning two individual events and one relay to lead Westfield State to a 145-125 victory against Simmons College on Sunday. Her 50-freestyle time of 25.83 seconds was only 84/100ths off the school record.
Zeppa also claimed the top spot in the 100 backstroke, recording a time of 1:04.82, which was six seconds clear of her next closest competitor. She concluded a fine afternoon as part of the quartet of swimmers in the final event of the meet, taking first place honors in the 200 freestyle relay.
The rookie swimmer has made an immediate impact for the Owls swimming and diving team in the early parts of the season, including two weeks ago, when she won the same two events at the Union College meet.
Westfield State swimming and diving is back in action this Saturday as the Owls visit Gordon College for a meet with the Fighting Scots and Western New England at 1:00 P.M.
