Five Named to CSC Academic All-District Teams
Senior backs Katie Slattery and Emily Ottomaniello, senior goalkeeper Julia Robak, senior forward Kiana Muratsuka and sophomore back Kylie Tomasetti were tabbed.
Five women from the Westfield State women's soccer team have been recognized as members of the Academic All District team by the College Sports Communicators. The program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Senior backs Katie Slattery and Emily Ottomaniello, senior goalkeeper Julia Robak, senior forward Kiana Muratsuka and sophomore back Kylie Tomasetti were tabbed.
Slattery, a biology major and team captain from Wilbraham, Mass., started all 21 games this season and was credited with one assist. She was a first team All-MASCAC defender this fall.
Ottomaniello, a biology major from Agawam, made 20 starts as part of the Owls back four which allowed conference opponents a total of two goals in eight games.
Robak, who was previously named as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference's defensive player of the year, is an English and secondary education major from Chicopee, Mass. Robak served as a team captain and posted a 0.82 goals-against average and a .851 save percentage on the year.
Muratsuka, a movement science major from Wahaiwa, Hawaii, was the team's second leading scored with 12 points on three goals and six assists. She was a second-team All-MASCAC honoree this fall.
Tomasetti is studying marketing played in all 21 games, finishing the season with three goals and two assists, and was selected a second team MASCAC All-conference pick this fall.
Westfield finished the year 9-6-6 under coach Todd Ditmar, and was even better in conference play with a 6-0-2 mark in the regular season, then won the conference tournament with a 1-0 win over Worcester State in the championship game.
Select players from the Academic All District teams move on to the Academic All-America ballot. Those teams will be announced in mid-December.
