Women’s Soccer Ranked Second in MASCAC Preseason Poll
Owls return three all-conference players from last season entering the 2025 campaign.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State women's soccer was picked to finish second as part of the 2025 MASCAC Preseason Poll as voted on by the coaches throughout the conference.
The Owls received 58 points and two first-place votes to nab the second spot, trailing only Bridgewater State who was selected as the preseason favorite after totaling six first-place votes and 62 points. Worcester State secured the third spot in the poll with 50 points and one first-place vote.
After a run of three consecutive MASCAC Championships, the Owls finished the 2024 season as the league's runner-up after posting an 11-5-4 overall record and a 6-1 conference mark. The Owls earned the second overall seed in the MASCAC tournament, defeating Worcester State 3-0 in the semifinals before falling to top-seeded Bridgewater State in the title game, 3-2.
Westfield returns three of their five all-conference selections from a season ago: Forward Kiana Muratsuka (Mililani, Hawaii), midfielder Morgan Berthiaume (Webster, Mass.), and defender Kylie Tomasetti (Northborough, Mass.).
Muratsuka recorded a league-leading 12 assists last year and compiled 34 points which was second in the conference. She also scored 11 goals which was tied for third in the league. Muratsuka, along with several other Owls, will look to shoulder the scoring load after losing all-time leading goal scorer in program history and All-American Delaney Parker who graduated this past year.
Berthiaume is a candidate to increase her scoring totals after delivering a strong season in the midfield, finishing third on the Owls in points last season, logging eight goals and nine assists. She packed a scoring punch in Westfield's postseason run a year ago, scoring twice in the semifinal victory while finding the back of the net once in the championship game as well.
Tomasetti cemented herself as a key player on the Owls defense as a first-year athlete and was named the MASCAC Rookie of the Year for her efforts. This season, she returns to fortify an Owls defensive unit that allowed just 1.31 goals per game. Tomasetti was also fourth on the team with 12 points after scoring four goals and four assists, highlighting her versatility as an all-around player for Westfield.
Westfield also brings back their primary goalkeeper in Julia Robak (Chicopee, Mass.) who has made 36 career starts in net across her three seasons prior. The senior keeper delivered a 1.35 goals against and an .806 save percentage last year.
Westfield State opens the 2025 regular season on Friday, August 29 against Colby-Sawyer at 2:00 P.M. from Kelsey Soccer Field in New London, N.H.
