WESTFIELD, Mass. — Westfield had two women's soccer players Julia Robak (Chicopee, Mass.) and first-year defender Kylie Tomasetti (Northborough, Mass.) secured Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference player of the week honors this past week on their trip to Maryville, Tennessee.
The first was the MASCAC defensive player of the week in Robak. The junior goalkeeper for the Owls played over 200 minutes at the season opening tournament and finished with 10 saves, an .833 save percentage and a 0.90 goals against average. In the regular season opener against Sewanee, Robak piled up an eight-save shutout, allowing the Owls to draw with the Tigers, 0-0.
Last season, Robak started in 13 games for a final stat line of 20 goals against, 54 saves and a 1.68 GAA. Robak was elite in MASCAC conference play last fall as she started six games with a slash line of two goals against, 16 saves and a 0.41 GAA to top it off with a .889 save percentage.
Tomasetti received conference recognition as the conference's Rookie of the Week. Tomasetti played a strong defensive anchor position at center back for both games. Tomasetti had plenty of nice defensive plays, allowing for Westfield to obtain a pair of draws against 2023 NCAA Tournament teams Sewanee and Maryville. Tomasetti looks to be a cornerstone piece in this Westfield defense for the rest of this year and on.
Robak, Tomasetti, and the Owls will look to continue a strong start with their home opener against Southern Maine on Saturday, August 7 at 3:00 P.M.
