Marena Morales Named MASCAC Offensive Player of the Week
Morales tallied 11 goals and four assists in a 2-1 week
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State University junior attack Marena Morales (Tolland, Conn.) was named as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference women's lacrosse offensive player of the week for the week ending Sunday, April 19.
Morales tallied 11 goals and four assists with 13 draw controls and four draw controls in a 2-1 week, including a pair of conference wins as the Owls stayed unbeaten in the MASCAC. She netted three goals and two assists with five draw controls in a 19-1 win at Anna Maria, and powered a 15-4 win at Salem State with five goals, two assists and three draws. Morales also scored three goals in a loss to national #5 Amherst.
For the season, the Morales ranks second on the team in scoring with 41 points and 12 assists for 53 points, and leads the Owls with 51 draw controls. She ranks second in the MASCAC in goals and fourth in points.
The Owls are 8-7 overall but 5-0 in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference, tied for the top spot in the league rankings with Worcester State – with the two teams meeting tonight at Alumni Field for the outright lead in the race for the league's regular season title and the top seed in next week's MASCAC Tournament.
The Owls will play their final regular season game on Saturday, as Westfield hosts Fitchburg State at Alumni Field at noon, a game that will be the Owls' senior day.
