Women’s Lacrosse Ranked Sixth in Regional Poll
Westfield State women’s lacrosse ranked sixth in Division III Region II poll as the Owls enter tournament play
WESTFIELD, Mass. – The Westfield State women's lacrosse team has entered the Division III regional polls and are currently ranked sixth in Region II. The Owls enter the rankings after completing a perfect conference regular season at 7-0, while entering postseason play on a nine-game winning streak to vault their overall record to 12-5.
Westfield has a staggering +90 goal differential on the season, led offensively by junior Emma Cretella (Cheshire, Conn.) and sophomore Natalie DeMaio (Westwood, Mass.). Cretella leads the Owls in points on the year, collecting 35 goals and 16 assists for a total of 51 points. DeMaio is third in the conference in goals scored (48), and second on the Owls in points (49).
Defensively, the Owls are led by the goalkeeping tandem of Kara Banagan (Niskayuna, N.Y.) and Sydney Smith (Dalton, Mass.) who are each top three in goals against and goals against average in the MASCAC. Banagan leads the conference in save percentage at 57.4%.
Westfield State will begin MASCAC tournament play in a semi-final game on Thursday at 7:00 P.M. from Alumni Field as the Owls await the winner of #4 Bridgewater State and #5 Salem State.
