Westfield State junior Emma Cretella received the MASCAC Player of the Week after 2-0 week of the Owls
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State junior midfielder Emma Cretella (Cheshire, Conn.) was named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week after the Owls posted a 2-0 record this past week.
Cretella collected four goals and five assists for a total of nine points along with eight draw controls and three ground balls over the two games. She jumpstarted the Owls offense in a pivotal match-up against Framingham State on Saturday, scoring three of the first four goals for Westfield while adding three assists in a 20-13 victory over the Rams. Cretella also added a pair of assists in a 14-2 road win over MCLA on Thursday.
The junior midfielder continues to lead the Owls in points, compiling 31 goals and 12 assists for 43 points in 14 games played. She is second on the team in goals, and third on the team in assists and draw controls (38).
Westfield State (10-5, 5-0 MASCAC) is on a roll heading into the final week of the regular season, having won seven consecutive games. After handing Framingham State their first loss in conference play, the Owls will face another top three opponent in the conference in Worcester State (9-6, 4-1 MASCAC) tomorrow at 7:00 P.M. from Alumni Field in Westfield, Mass. Westfield will wrap up the regular season on the road against Mass. Maritime on Saturday at noon. A pair of wins this week for the Owls would secure the top overall seed in the MASCAC tournament starting next week.
