Grace Wigington Named MASCAC Player of the Week
Wiggington averaged 24 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.5 steals per game
WESTFIELD, Mass. - Westfield State University sophomore Grace Wigington (Lenox, Mass./IMG Academy) made an impression in her debut as an Owl, earning Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference player of the week honors after her first two games.
Wiggington averaged 24 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.5 steals, shooting 42.9% from three point range and 87.5 percent from the line in a 2-0 week for the Owls.
She scored 33 points on 6-of-12 three-point shooting with six rebounds and seven steals in the 95-78 win over Gordon on Saturday. She becomes just the 10th player in program history to have a game of 33+ points.
Wiggington, a 5-6 guard, transferred to Westfield State after playing her first year at NCAA Div. II Franklin Pierce University in Rindge, N.H.
Wigington and the Owls travel to Lasell College for a non conference game on Wednesday evening, then return home to host the Westfield Gas and Electric Tip Off Tournament on Friday and Saturday. Westfield hosts Utica (NY) College on Friday at 5:30, with Albright (Pa.) and Mitchell (Conn.) meeting at 7:30.
Saturday the consolation final is scheduled for 12 noon, with the title game following at 2:00 p.m.
