Grant Named to NEWBA Weekly Honor Roll
Westfield State women’s basketball senior forward, Jordan Grant (Gray, Maine) has been named to the New England Women’s Basketball Association (NEWBA) weekly honor roll second team.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State women's basketball senior forward, Jordan Grant (Gray, Maine) has been named to the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) weekly honor roll second team. This recognition is a result of her outstanding performance on the court during the first two weeks of the season.
The NEWBA honors all D3 women's basketball players in New England who demonstrate prominent performances. The association also awards high honors such as Player of the Year and Regional All-Star Teams. Grant was recognized as an All-Regional Fourth Team member during the 2022-23 season and was named to the NEWBA D3 team of the week in the 2023-24 season.
Grant earned her place on the weekly honor roll by scoring an impressive 31 points in the season opener against Rivier University, showcasing her ability to create a dominant offense. She leads Westfield with a total of 71 points so far. As a power forward, Grant applies pressure in the paint, with a career field goal percentage of .497, placing her third on the all-time Westfield women's basketball field goal percentage list.
Grant creates a dominant offense with rebounds and layups but also plays an important part on defense as she currently records 59 total career blocked shots, which ties her for fifth place in WSU women's basketball history, alongside Rachel Sayce (1993-97).
The Owls will host The Westfield Gas and Electric Tip-Off Tournament at the Woodward Center. The first round will take place on Friday, November 22, with the consolation and championship games on Saturday, November 23. The Owls are set to compete against Utica University at 5:30 pm, November 22, for the first round of the tournament.
