Rennich, Pond Earn CSC Academic All District Honors
Westfield State women’s basketball players Jenn Rennich and Maddie Pond have been named to the College Sports Communicators Division III Academic All-District Team.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State women's basketball players Jenn Rennich and Maddie Pond have been named to the College Sports Communicators Division III Academic All-District Team.
Players must have a 3.50 or higher cumulative GPA, have upperclass academic standing, and be a starter or key reserve on their team to be selected to the team.
Rennich, a grad student and movement science major from Bedford, Mass., who was also the College Sports Communicators Division III Women's Soccer Academic All American of the Year, averaged 2.0 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.6 steals per game, playing a key role in the Owls pressure defense scheme. She ranked fourth the MASCAC in steals per game. Rennich started 22 of 25 games after the Owls' women's soccer season ended.
Pond, a sophomore elementary education major from Holyoke, Mass., who attended Hampshire Regional High School, averaged 7.4 points, 2.4 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game while making 45 three pointers. Her best game of the season came on February 4 at Salem State, where she sank seven three pointers and scored 21 points in an Owls' win. Pond ranked eighth in the MASCAC in steals per game and fourth in 3-point field goals made. Pond played in all 28 games for the Owls this season.
Westfield wrapped up the season this weekend with a 18-10 overall record, falling to Bridgewater State in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference championship game. The Owls posted a nine-game winning streak before falling in the title game.
