Williams Earns MASCAC Rookie of the Week
For the sixth time this season, Westfield State first-year guard Octaviana Williams was named the MASCAC Rookie of the Week.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – For the sixth time this season, Westfield State first-year guard Octaviana Williams (Springfield, Mass.) was named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week after the Owls went 2-0 this past week.
Over the course of the two games, Williams averaged nine rebounds, 5.5 points, 5.5 steals and 1.5 assists.
Williams swiped a season-high seven steals to go along with nine points and six rebounds in a 110-67 win over Fitchburg State on Thursday night. She then grabbed 12 rebounds (ten offensive rebounds), four steals and two points in a 74-41 victory over MCLA on Saturday. The ten offensive rebounds were also a season high for the first-year guard.
On the season, Williams leads the team in steals, averaging 2.8 per game. Her rebounding production has also been noticeable as she is averaging 6.2 rebounds per game (second on the Owls) and has pulled down 3.6 offensive boards which is fourth in the MASCAC.
Westfield State (11-9, 4-3 MASCAC) currently sits in a three-way tie for third place in the MASCAC standings as the Owls enter the back half of the conference regular season. The Owls will play a pair of road games this week beginning on Wednesday at 7:30 P.M. against Framingham State (13-4, 5-2 MASCAC) followed by Salem State (9-11, 4-3 MASCAC) on Saturday at 2:00 P.M.
