Williams Named MASCAC Rookie of the Week
Westfield State first-year guard Octaviana Williams received MASCAC recognition as the league’s rookie of the week after a 2-1 week for the Owls.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State first-year guard Octaviana Williams (Springfield, Mass.) was named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week after the Owls rolled to an in-season tournament championship as part of a 2-1 week.
Williams averaged 7.3 points, 4.0 steals, and 2.7 rebounds per game across the three-game stretch. She totaled a career-high 16 points and five steals in the Owls 72-62 victory over UMass Boston on Friday night to help guide Westfield into the tournament championship game. Williams also piled up five steals in a non-conference setback at MIT on Tuesday night while collecting two more steals in an 84-51 blowout victory against Hunter College in the Hunter Tip-Off Tournament title game on Saturday.
The first-year guard has made an early impact for the Owls, especially on the defensive end as Williams leads the MASCAC with 3.4 steals per game. She has also added 5.6 points and 4.2 rebounds per game this season.
Westfield State (4-1) looks to continue their hot start to the season as the Owls visit Mount Holyoke College on Tuesday with a 7:00 P.M. tipoff.
