Box ScoreNEWTON - The Westfield State women's basketball team cruised to a 74-45 non-conference victory over Mount Ida College on Nov. 20.
Westfield pulled ahead by as many as 12 in the first half with Lauren Sylvain (Hadley, MA/Hopkins Academy) tallying six points . The Owls led 30-18 at halftime; it was a sloppy half for both teams with Mount Ida committing 10 turnovers and Westfield tallying 15.
Westfield broke open the game early in the second half with a 13-0 scoring run.
The Owls got good performances from sophomore guard Peggy Steuerwald (Lenox, MA) who tallied 12 points and four boards. Senior Betty Dely (Waltham, MA) would match Steurwald;s point totals for the night. Also scoring in double figures were Lauren Sylvain and Andrea Wasuk with 11 points apiece.
Westfield dominated underneath with freshman center Cassy Jouannet (Conway, MA/Frontier Regional) grabbing a game high 10 rebounds.
Westfield State shot 37 percent from the floor and 69 percent from the foul line, and the Mustangs shot 27 percent from the field.
