Softball Climbs in National Rankings
The Owls have climbed into the top 25 in the NFCA National Poll, and are in the top 10 in the NPI rankings released by the NCAA.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State University softball's 22-0 start to the season is drawing national attention, as the Owls have climbed into the top 25 in the NFCA National Poll, and are in the top 10 in the nation in Division III in the first NPI rankings released by the NCAA.
After receiving votes in the last two polls, Westfield leapt into a tie for 25th in the NFCA/GoRout Division III Coaches Poll this week.
The Owls fared even better in the NPI rankings released by the NCAA on Monday, where they ranked eighth on Monday before slipping one spot to ninth on Tuesday. The NPI rankings are based on an algorithm that uses winning percentage and strength of schedule data, and is used by the NCAA to both select at-large teams and seed the national tournament at the end of the regular season.
Westfield is one of just three unbeaten teams left in the nation (as of Tuesday morning) alongside top-ranked Virgina Wesleyan (32-0) and Oswego (NY) State (12-0).
The Owls have set a school record with 22 straight wins to open the 2026 campaign. Westfield has a busy upcoming slate with a pair of games at MCLA today, two against Western New England on Thursday, and a pair against Framingham State on Saturday.
