Westfield State Softball "Receiving Votes" in D3 Top 25 !
The NFCA/GoRout Division III Top 25 Coaches Poll is selected by 10 NCAA Division III head coaches representing the 10 NCAA regions.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – After a perfect 16-0 start to the season, the Westfield State softball team is receiving votes in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association poll for the first time ever.
The NFCA/GoRout Division III Top 25 Coaches Poll ranks the top 25 teams in the nation on a weekly basis, with the Owls joining Colby, Springfield, WPI, Transylvania (Ky.) and Eastern (Pa.) among the teams receiving votes beyond the top 25.

Westfield is one of just five teams left in the nation with an unblemished record. National #1 Virginia Wesleyan is 24-0, and WPI (12-0), Oswego State (4-0) and VSU-Lyndon (2-0) are still in the ranks of the unbeaten. Defending National Champion Trine (Ind.) University is second in the nation at 15-1.
Tufts at #10 and Husson (Ma.) at #20 are the only two New England schools represented in the top 20.
Coach Joe Hough's Owls have a strong upper class nucleus that forms the heart of the batting order with senior 3b/DH Hannah Wodecki (Southampton, Mass./Hampshire Reg.) leading the team with a .490 BA, senior SS Sarah Hough (Southwick, Mass.) (.392, 9 doubles, 2 hr), and senior C/OF Mia Alfonso (Dalton, Mass./Pittsfield) (.452, 8 doubles, 2 hr, 19 RBI).
Westfield State swept a doubleheader from defending conference champ Worcester State on Sunday to start the season 16-0, which set a school-record for the longest winning streak in school history. The Owls took game 1 by a 10-1 score behind junior SP Joss Mettey (Easthampton, Mass./Hampshire Reg.) (W, 5-0) to win their 15th straight game. That broke a record set in the 1975 season when the Owls won 14 straight (after losing their season-opener) before falling to Brown University on the way to an 18-2 overall record season.
Westfield won a program record 32 games in 2025 before falling in the MASCAC semifinals.
Westfield State is in non-conference action today with a doubleheader at Smith College, with first pitch set for 3:00 p.m.
