Softball Pitching Duo of Canty and Mettey Earn MASCAC Weekly Honors
The Westfield State pitching tandem of Katherine Canty (Natick, Mass.) and Joss Mettey (Easthampton, Mass.) headline the MASCAC honors this week as Canty earned the conference’s Pitcher of the Week while Mettey was named the Rookie of the Week.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – The Westfield State pitching tandem of Katherine Canty (Natick, Mass.) and Joss Mettey (Easthampton, Mass.) headline the MASCAC honors this week as Canty earned the conference's Pitcher of the Week while Mettey was named the Rookie of the Week.
In a week that the Owls went 7-1, including 4-0 in conference play, Canty and Mettey combined for a 4-1 record from the circle. Canty sported a 2-1 record as she pitched 16 innings with a 0.88 ERA, struck out 17 batters and had a 1.13 whip. Mettey complimented Canty well as she went 2-0 on the week with a 0.54 ERA, a 0.92 whip while fanning seven batters and not walking a hitter.
Canty is the current leader in the MASCAC when it comes to ERA with a 1.67 and is second in wins with 11 and third in strikeouts with 73. Mettey has the third lowest earned run average in the conference at 2.43 and is also tied for third in wins with eight. Mettey also sits in the top ten in strikeouts with 38.
Westfield State controls the top spot in the MASCAC standings with two weeks remaining in the regular season as the Owls (27-7, 9-1 MASCAC) are back in action Thursday, April 24 as they head to Keene State for a non-conference doubleheader that starts at 3:00 pm.
