WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State junior third baseman Hannah Wodecki (Southampton, Mass.) has been named MASCAC Softball Player of the Week, while sophomore Joss Mettey (Easthampton, Mass.) earned MASCAC Rookie of the Week honors after leading the Owls to a successful 5-1 week in Florida.
Wodecki was nearly unstoppable at the plate, batting .542 (13-for-24) with a double, triple, seven RBIs, and six runs scored across six games. The junior infielder registered at least one hit in every contest while posting a .667 slugging percentage and a .542 on-base percentage.
Her most impressive performance came during the Owls pair of wins over Wisconsin-Superior, where she went a combined 6-for-9 with a double, triple, five RBIs, and four runs scored. Wodecki continued her hot streak with a 2-for-3 showing, including an RBI in the 11-3 victory over Alfred State, followed by a 3-for-5 performance with another RBI in the 9-1 win against Geneva.
On the pitching side, Mettey shined in her three starts, earning two wins while the Owls were victorious in all three of her appearances. The sophomore hurler posted an impressive 2.15 ERA and 1.23 WHIP, allowing just 14 hits over 13 innings while striking out 12 batters and walking only two.
Mettey was particularly effective against Wisconsin-Superior, tossing five innings with six strikeouts in a commanding 10-1 win. Her control and consistency in the circle proved instrumental in the Owls' successful southern swing.
Wodecki, Mettey, and the Westfield State softball team aim to build on their impressive performance in Florida as they continue their season after an 8-2 start. Up next, they face Skidmore in a home doubleheader on Wednesday, March 19 from Sullivan Field in Westfield, Mass. with games at 3:00 and 5:00 P.M.
