Ciampa, Scoville Named MASCAC Player, Pitcher of the Week
Senior catcher Christina Ciampa (Rockville, Conn./Vernon-Rockville) and junior pitcher Stephanie Scoville (Northfield, Mass./Pioneer Valley) were selected for the two awards.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State softball players were named both the player and the pitcher of the week, after the Owls posted a perfect 4-0 record in a pair of doubleheaders last week.
Senior catcher Christina Ciampa (Rockville, Conn./Vernon-Rockville) and junior pitcher Stephanie Scoville (Northfield, Mass./Pioneer Valley) were selected for the two awards.
Ciampa hit .600 (6-10) with six RBI, five runs scored, a double, a home run and three walks with a .714 OBP and a 1.000 slugging percentage in a 4-0 week for the Owls. Went 3-for-5 with a home run, three RBI, two walks and three runs scored in the doubleheader sweep of Gordon. She was also 3-for-5 with a double, three RBI, a walk and two runs scored in the doubleheader sweep of Elms.
Scoville was named the pitcher of the week for the second time this season. Last week she threw two complete games, going 2-0 over 12 innings with a 2.33 ERA, 13 hits allowed, four earned runs, 12 strikeouts and two walks in her two starts. She twirled a complete game shutout, only giving up one hit with eight strikeouts in the five-inning 8-0 win over Elms. She pitched another complete game, allowing four earned runs while scattering 12 hits and two walks, and struck out four in an 11-8 win over Gordon.
Westfield State is now 9-5 on the season. The Owls are back in action on campus on Wednesday, playing host to Smith College in a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader.
