Sylven Wins 3000, Owl Men Fifth at CGA Bear Invitational
Sophomore Nathan Sylven (Wrentham, Mass.) won the 3000 for the Owls men’s track and field team which placed fifth at the CGA Bear Invitational on Friday night from New London, Conn.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Sophomore Nathan Sylven (Wrentham, Mass.) won the 3000 for the Owls men's track and field team which placed fifth at the CGA Bear Invitational on Friday night from New London, Conn.
Sylven, who was most recently named the MASCAC Track Athlete of the Week, raced to a time of 9:09.76 in the event while teammate Scott Porter (Boylston, Mass.) was second in the 3000 at a time of 9:16.98.
Daniel Shea (Longmeadow, Mass.) earned third in the long jump at a distance of 6.44 meters.
First-year Theo Yetman secured two fourth-place marks in the 200 (23.19) and the 400 (53.04). John Nekitopoulos (Chicopee, Mass.) also placed fourth in the mile in 4:41.23.
Coast Guard won the meet with a total of 116 points followed by Eastern Connecticut with 104 points. Westfield tallied 43 points.
Westfield State will next be in action on Sunday, February 16 for the MASCAC Indoor Championship meet from Wheaton College in Norton, Mass.
